The Welcome to Cancer Services film focusses on the 5,000 new patients seen each year as a regional centre for rarer types of cancer and also as the local hospital for patients living in the Cambridge area. The film aims to give patients an overview of the oncology departments as well as key information about what to expect during your visit.

The Vascular Access Unit is nurse-led unit that cares for patients who require central access for their treatment. Vascular Access Unit (VAU) is clinically supported by a lead consultant. They can help you by inserting your central line for your individualised treatment, whether that is chemotherapy, stem cell transplant, parenteral nutrition or IV antibiotics.

Traditionally when people think of treatment for cancer they think of chemotherapy however there are now a number of forms of treatments which may be given, these are referred to as systemic anti- cancer treatments  or SACT, chemotherapy is one of these. Historically chemotherapy was given predominantly through a vein however nowadays, your treatment can be given in a variety of different ways including as a tablet, an injection under the skin, an injection into a vein or into the spinal area.

The Waiting Well film is aimed at supporting patient’s health and wellbeing whilst they wait for treatment.Many people in the country are waiting a long time for surgery. Whilst they wait, the “Waiting Well” service aims to optimise their waiting time preparing them to be in the best physical and mental health before their next appointment or treatment.
