Bringing Sustainability to Life with New Animation for the University of Cambridge’s Sustain 8 Programme

As organisations around the world race to meet ambitious sustainability targets, one of the biggest challenges isn’t setting the strategy – it’s turning that strategy into meaningful action on the factory floor.

That’s the story behind the latest animation produced by Cambridge Filmworks in collaboration with the University of Cambridge’s Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) Engage team. Designed to launch the new Cambridge Sustain 8 programme, the film transforms a sophisticated manufacturing methodology into an engaging visual story that manufacturers everywhere can understand and act upon.

About Cambridge Sustain 8

Developed by IfM Engage at the University of Cambridge, Cambridge Sustain 8 is an eight-step organisational engagement programme that helps manufacturers connect sustainability strategy with day-to-day operations.

The approach focuses on empowering frontline teams, building meaningful sustainability KPIs and creating continuous improvement cultures that deliver measurable operational and environmental benefits. The programme has already been implemented in more than 35 factories internationally, demonstrating improvements in energy efficiency, material use and operational performance.

The animation introduces Cambridge Sustain 8, an organisational engagement programme developed by the University of Cambridge to help businesses embed sustainability into everyday manufacturing operations. Rather than focusing solely on expensive technology or large capital investment, Sustain 8 empowers people throughout an organisation to identify opportunities, improve efficiency and create lasting cultural change. The programme has demonstrated measurable improvements in energy use, materials efficiency and waste reduction within just 12 months across factories worldwide.
