Microsoft Research Cambridge was set up in July 1997 with three researchers. Today over 100 researchers, mostly from Europe, are engaged in computer science research at the lab. The city of Cambridge was the clear choice for the location of the facility because of its world-renowned reputation and its rich history as a center of learning.

Cambridge Filmworks have worked with researchers and developers at Microsoft Research for a number of years, documenting projects and innovations as diverse as big data analytics, technology for nature and here the new Bio Model Analyzer, a new biological modelling tool that illustrates signalling pathways and determines cellular stabilization.
