Kidney Research UK – Johan and Per’s transplant experience
Former easyJet boss says the sky’s the limit after kidney donation
When his brother Per suffered kidney failure in 2008, donating a kidney was an easy decision for former easyJet CEO, Johan Lundgren. That transplant transformed life for Per, as he was freed from dialysis, while Johan has continued to thrive with one kidney.
Around 1 in 10 people worldwide have chronic kidney disease and many people are undiagnosed.
Johan and Per sat down with us to discuss the life-changing impact of living kidney donation. They reflect on the opportunity for others to follow in Johan’s footsteps, by donating a kidney to one of almost 7,000 people desperately waiting for a kidney transplant in the UK.
With the number of people on the transplant waiting list the highest in 17 years – and around six people dying every week whilst waiting – the need for donors is more urgent than ever.
Since 1961, Kidney Research UK have helped shape the treatment and care of people living with kidney disease. Now, as the leading kidney research charity in the UK, they are driving faster progress for everyone affected by the disease.
Kidney disease is growing in the UK at an alarming rate, devastating lives and threatening to overwhelm our NHS.
Kidney Research UK’s strategy sets out our ambitious plan to turn this tide and achieve their vision: The day when everyone lives free from kidney disease.
