Enter the Stargate: Seeing the Invisible

Enter the Stargate: Seeing the Invisible

You can’t see it, you can’t feel it yet a mysterious force surrounds us. But unlike Luke Skywalker you won’t need a light saber to harness it: enter The Satimo Stargate 64.

The enormous tech boom in mobile and wearable devices means that radio waves and the intricate understanding of them are now high on the scientific agenda.

Local tech giants Cambridge Consultants has acquired a ‘Stargate 64’ anechoic radio test facility to help maximise performance of the wireless products it develops – particularly in the rapidly growing connected wearable technology sector.

The Satimo Stargate 64 – named after its ring of 64 test antennas that looks like the portal from a sci-fi movie – is within a fully anechoic 6m-cube test chamber. It can perform full three-dimensional measurements and visualisations of the performance of both the radio and antennas of devices over the air – enabling body-worn products and their antennas to be accurately measured in situ.

We go behind the scenes at Cambridge Consultants to take a look at the amazing Stargate 64 and meet with their Head of Wireless Tim Fowler to find out how they are seeing the invisible.
