Cancer Research UK: Breast Cancer Awareness

Cancer Research UK: Breast Cancer Awareness

Meet five amazing women who took part in the Personalised Breast Cancer Programme. They share their different experiences of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, and explain why it’s important to take part in clinical research.

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in the UK, but survival over the last 40 years has nearly doubled. Today, 8 in 10 women diagnosed with breast cancer will survive their disease for 10 years or more. Cancer Research UK’s research underpins many of today’s treatments and has helped save thousands of lives.

From studying the biology of breast cancer cells in the lab to leading clinical trials testing cutting-edge treatments, CRUK researchers are working hard to ensure more women survive breast cancer.

The Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre is one of seven CRUK Centres across the UK. They are a vital research hub drawing together expertise, encouraging collaborative research, and bridging the gap between innovative laboratory work and patient benefit. The combination of scientific excellence across a range of disciplines within the University, the high concentration of world-class biomedical laboratories across Cambridge, and the high quality of clinical practice at Addenbrooke’s Hospital and Royal Papworth Hospital ensures they are driving innovative cancer research to improve outcomes for patients.

The CRUK Cambridge Centre is the collaboration of scientists and clinicians from Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, the University of Cambridge, independent research institutes, and pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries in the Cambridge area. With its reputation for world-class research and clinical excellence, Cambridge is a natural focal point for combining innovative cancer science with high quality patient care in order to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
