Astrosale – Safely Removing Space Debris from Earth Orbits

Astroscale is the first private company with a vision to secure the safe and sustainable development of space for the benefit of future generations and is dedicated to on-orbit servicing across all orbits.

Founded in 2013, Astroscale is developing innovative and scalable solutions across the spectrum of on-orbit servicing, including life extension, in situ space situational awareness, end of life, and active debris removal, to create sustainable space systems and mitigate the growing and hazardous buildup of debris in space. Astroscale is also defining business cases and working with government and commercial stakeholders to develop norms, regulations, and incentives for the responsible use of space.

Astroscale’s cutting edge ELSA-M mission provides a solution to safely capture and retire multiple satellites in a single mission.

The ELSA-M servicer will provide a solution to capture and de-orbit multiple commercial clients’ satellites per servicer safely and responsibly in a single mission and will be the first to demonstrate this capability.   The ELSA-M servicer will be able to support a range of future satellite operators, including constellations, which are equipped with a compatible magnetic capture mechanism such as the Astroscale Docking Plate.

The mission is supported by the UK Space Agency through the Sunrise Programme which is run as a Public-Private Partnership between ESA and OneWeb. Astroscale has been working with OneWeb, one of the most mature LEO satellite constellation operators, for almost 5 years under the ESA Sunrise programme
