Digital Greenhouse is a Cambridge Consultants research initiative exploring and developing cutting-edge machine learning techniques, often producing systems that generalise well for real-world deployments.
The Digital Greenhouse team have now paired up Artificial Intelligence with the arcade classic Pacman to create a training schedule in which Pacman learns through his mistakes to eventually win every time.
The film shows various stages of Pacman’s training from useless through to a Pac-Man master. One of the worries frequently aired with AI is the lack of “explainability” – you can’t tell why it’s doing what it is. This agent was design to show (a) the level of danger it is feeling and (b) its future plans (the pink route on the left).
