Internet Watch Foundation – Megan’s Story
IWF work to eliminate child sexual abuse imagery online, preventing the ongoing victimisation of those abused in childhood and making the internet safer for all.
IWF work to make the internet a safer place. They help victims of child sexual abuse worldwide by identifying and removing online images and videos of their abuse. They search for child sexual abuse images and videos and then we have them removed. The IWF Hotline offers a safe place for the public to report anonymously.
This short film introduces the people behind the Internet Watch Foundation and the work they do to eliminate child sexual abuse imagery online. It offers a glimpse into how we respond to reports, proactively seek out criminal content, and utilise technology to prevent its spread, making the internet safer for everyone.
This new film for IWF introduces Megan Hinton from the Marie Collins Foundation, who speaks about the importance of survivor-led advocacy and the impact of technology-assisted abuse. Her insights highlight the need for continued support and action to protect victims and prevent further harm.
When the IWF started over 29 years ago, 18 per cent of the world’s known child sexual abuse imagery was hosted in the UK. Today, it’s less than 1 per cent. This means IWF have helped make the UK one of the most difficult places on the planet to host illegal images of children.
Iin the UK alone there are over 830,000 adults who pose a sexual risk to children. That includes regularly viewing child sexual abuse online. IWF won’t rest until every single criminal image and video has been removed.
