Cambridge University Press Museum

Cambridge Filmworks have delved into the rich history of Cambridge University Press capturing the Press Museum on film.

Cambridge University Press has published the works of over sixty Nobel Laureates and the Press Museum contains original and facsimile copies of items including a letter from Albert Einstein, an edition of the King James Bible printed in 1638, and copies of works from Sir Isaac Newton and John Milton.

The Press Museum also houses original printing press machinery and a selection of John Baskerville’s punches (steel rods with a letter carved backwards on the end), the originals of the incredibly popular Baskerville typeface that we use today.

Heidi Mulvey, Head of Community Engagement said: “We absolutely love the film! A huge thanks to Cambridge Filmworks for all your hard work and sensitive handling of this – we’re really thrilled!”

Dr. Rosalind Grooms, Cambridge University Press Archivist said: “The vibrant colours, the panoramic and close-up views of the display cabinets, the movement around the space, the lovely vista from the glass door to the illuminated cabinet at the far end all look amazing. Thank you very much indeed for creating such a wonderful film about the Press Museum.”
